(Wheee ... semi-nonsensical, self-referential meta-poetry!)

For those of you who just can't sleep
For those who feel they're in too deep
For those who think that all is lost
For those who just can't pay the cost:
These lines I write, they are for you
So go ahead, do as I do:

Get some paper, get a pen
Draw a chicken, draw a hen
Paint 'em black or paint 'em blue
The color is just up to you
And if that doesn't make you smile
Because it doesn't suit your style
You should probably write a poem instead
If you do, you could start like that:

"For those who just can't see the light
And think they're trapped in endless night
For those who think love's just a word
They've never said and never heard
For those who feel so lost and beat
For all the lonely, those in need:
These lines I write, they are for you
So go ahead, do as I do:"

Once your first verse looks like that
It'll be the second one you're at
That is where the fun sets in:
'Cause you'll tell your readers to begin
To draw a horse, a pig, a cow
And only if they don't know how
You'll allow them to write a poem instead
So sooner or later, we'll all go mad
Which is still better than being
Unable to sleep
Lost
Lonely
Desperate
And all of the other things mentioned above
